Environmental Planning and Management
Introduction
Humans are an integral part of nature. Our actions influence nature and natural phenomena impact humans and other species on Earth. With a growing urban population, environmental planning and management is imperative to accommodate influxes of people while also maintaining the surrounding natural environment which is crucial for human survival. A main component of environmental planning and management is the creation of sustainable communities. But what do these communities look like? What are some best practices for developing sustainable communities? In this module, you will be introduced to the concepts of environmental planning and management, some of the challenges associated with them, and why they are important for environmental sustainability. At the end of the module, resources are available for interested students to learn more about organizations engaged in environmental planning and management.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the module, you will be able to- define and explain the three main types of planning;
- explain the concept of environmental management and identify some common applications; and
- describe the people involved in environmental planning and management and explain their role and importance in achieving environmental sustainability.
