Environmental Sustainability in Practice

Learning to Be

Learning to be addresses the development of one’s personal attributes and ability to act with greater autonomy, judgement and personal responsibility in relation to environmental sustainability. To develop one’s personal competences to act responsibly, one must be motivated to challenge assumptions underlying unsustainable practices, and be a critical and reflective learner and practitioner.

Sometimes, the ability to challenge underlying assumptions and unsustainable practices may require a learning experience that you witness or experience that is disorienting or that challenges your prior perspectives.

Check out the research that has been done on the significant life experiences that shaped environmental awareness in individuals in Canada and Australia.
